Leeds Met study for ITT finds tourism industry is behind other sectors in accepting responsibility for climate change and preparing for possible consequences. ITT chair and Leeds Met professor Rhodri Thomas heads industry survey comparing tourism industry against other sectors.
Travel and tourism are behind other sectors in accepting their corporate responsibility towards climate change. 34% of businesses believe travel has a role to play in controlling global warming and 70% say to not understand the implications of climate change.
The increased pressure on travel industry to do something about the environment is generating polarised responses, and ICRT wants to play a role in action oriented problem solving. Travel businesses are threatened by climate change according to 54% of respondants, yet 64% believe that global warming presents opportunities as well as threats.
